Hello,
I liked reading your original post. It was honest and tactful. And I thought similarly about the war on terror. But, my opinion has recently greatly changed.
The post by Saskia Littlesister is completely ridiculous and actually insults me. To even imply that America set up and planned the 911 attacks is appalling!!! It's appalling to those family members of those who lost someone, to any and everyone who has and is STILL helping with the aftermath, and to people who work for the American government now!
I am a police officer and I just recently attended a conference on terrorism. I learned so much from this conference that I wish many Americans could see and learn for them. But, of course a lot of what I was privileged to see was law enforcement sensitive, so the general public can't see what I saw. But, I will say that you can find a lot of good, credible information on the web now days.
So, to keep from rambling and to simply address your question you posted. I do support the war. Al Qaeda is an extremely strong force overseas. They are gaining power by killing innocent people, trapping them into joining them, and by committing terrorist actions (by definition means to produce fear or threats to a mass audience).
If you study any of the Al Qaeda propaganda or advertisements they are putting out you will see Al Qaeda's intentions. The master and end goal is to rule the world. And they do not plan to stop until they do.
This is why there is the war on terror. Troops are trying to capture and take out the officials of Al Qaeda, so that the terrorist group will be destroyed or atleast broken up and less organized. If we stand idle still, they will attack us again. They already have and they plan to again. PERIOD.
I do completely agree with you that because of the attacks and the war and such, there has become so much hatred toward certain groups of people. But, the government has not done this. Ignorant, uneducated people have done this. Horrible stereotypes and generalizations have done this. And this is something I am trying to fight against.
I met a man the other night at work and we were having a lovely conversation. When we started discussing religion and I asked him if he identified with a religion he seemed so ashamed and scared to tell me that he was Muslim. And I hate that. I hate that he was scared to tell me.
Just last month, there was the radical preacher in Florida advertising that he was going to burn the Quran. WTF?! Why? Because he is plain ignorant! The Qur'an is a holy book for the Islam religion. What type of message does that send to people of the Islamic faith? To Al Qaeda? It only fuels their hatred of America.
Have we not forgotten the radical people of the Christian faith? I know the Black community has not! There are still KKK members out there. Preaching about how the Bible says this and that. But, do we label all Christians as KKK members?! No. Or what about the people that bomb abortion clinics? They claim to be Christians and that they are doing God's work. They are radicals. There are radicals in every race, religion, ethnicity…
So, I think us as America need to do a better job of educating that just because someone wears a burka does not mean they are a terrorist. They are simply wearing something that holds a cultural, religious, or traditional meaning to them- just like a cross necklace that many Christians wear.
The troops are doing their best overseas to do the right thing, to protect us back home. They are not trying to kill innocent people. They are trying to capture and destroy Al- Qaeda. Period. But, war is a complex thing. How do you think troops feel when they have to kill a child because its father strapped a bomb to them and had the child close in toward the troops?
But, you don't see that kind of stuff that happens. A lot of things are censored here. Hell, watch the Daniel Pearl video. He was just trying to get an interview and was murdered! That is why there is the war on terror. And if you don't thing that the terrorist groups won't come here, then you are mistaken. They already are.
The terrorist groups are now pushing toward recruiting AMERICANS to carry out terrorist attacks against our great country. Why because they are white males and females. Easy to blend in. And they don't have to worry about passports, ICE, and those “terrorist” stereotypes.
I hope some of this makes sense. Regardless of how you feel about the war, atleast support the men and women that are giving their lives to protect us.
